Focusing on Postage Costs
The U. S. Post Office has announced another rate increase, to go into effect in May. In addition, one of the major book sites has announced that it has started to charge booksellers a commission on the postage amounts paid by buyers, in effect a surcharge on postage. Two of the other major sites charge buyers a fixed rate for shipping, then discount that amount to sellers. The end result for buyers will be an increase in costs. On sites where sellers can control the amount charged for shippers, buyers will see an immediate increase in shipping rates. On sites that have controlled shipping rates, it means the increase will be in the price of the item, a ‘hidden’ increase.
The one way these increases can be avoided is by ORDERING YOUR PURCHASES DIRECT from the bookseller. Whether you are buying from us or from any other bookseller on line, you can usually save yourself some money by searching for the website of the bookseller and ordering direct. Our website will not have an increase in postage fees.
